White Wines of Greece
Moschofilero & Malagousia
The Moschofilero grape produces wines with crisp character, beautiful floral aromas and hints of spice. The Malagousia grape is also an especially aromatic grape, leading to elegant full bodied wines with medium acidity and lively aromas of exotic fruits, citrus, jasmine and mint. The grape was nearly extinct before winemaker Geravassiliou saw the grape’s potential and began producing this wonderfully rich and balanced white as one of his signature wines.

Assyrtiko
Assyrtiko is one of Greece’s finest multi-purpose white grape varieties. It was first cultivated on the island of Santorini, where it has developed a unique character producing excellent AOC wines. It yields a bone-dry wine that has citrus aromas mixed with an earthy, mineral aftertaste due to the volcanic soil of Santorini. Katsano and Gaidouria are other local Santorini grapes rarely found off the island. Gavala has used these grapes to produce a very limited production dry white wine that possesses green highlights and a nose of sweet aromas of flowers, honey and lemon blossom.

Barrel Fermented
When matured in oak, Assyrtiko becomes an intense medium bodied white and shows off its ageing potential. Ovilos is a unique example of this from Biblia Chora Estate which blends this versatile Greek varietal with the classic Bordeaux blending grape Semillon. The Ovilos blends perfectly the Semillon aroma of apricot and honey with Assyrtiko notes of mineral, citrus, and melon. Along with hints of vanilla from the oak, the result is a truly unique wine with intense flavor and pleasant acidity that represents the new and creative winemaking taking place in Greece today.

Lebanese and Turkish White Wines
Lebanon is one of the oldest sites of wine production in the world and was instrumental in spreading wine and viticulture throughout the Mediterranean in ancient times. Today, Lebanon produces white wines using mainly classic French varietals as well as various local grape varieties. The most prominent of these local grapes are Merwah, which is believed to be an ancestor to Semillon, and Obaideh, which is believed to be an ancestor to Chardonnay.
Narince is an indigenous white grape of Turkey. Aged in oak, this varietal produces a unique wine with a complex aroma, mature fruit taste and well structured body
