Red Wines of Greece

Xinomavro & Blends

Literally translated as “acid black”, Xinomavro is the intensely flavored varietal of the Naoussa region of northern Greece. One of two noble red grapes of Greece, Xinomavro produces interesting age-worthy reds with flavors of dried cherries, herbs and spice, tobacco and roses. A distinct and unique Greek varietal, the style can vary from soft and silky to dark and powerful. For this reason, the best aged Xinomavros have been compared to a wide range of international wines from great Burgundies to aged Barbarescos or Barolos.

The Bekaa Valley of Lebanon offers a terroir very similar to some French terroir, thus producing a nice assortment of earthy, rich and robust wines using classic Bordeaux and Rhone varietals that can be drank now but will continue to age well.

The Kalecik Karasi grape hails from the Ankara Province of Turkey and possesses a unique taste, aroma and flavor. This wine has the color of ruby, and has a lasting and charming aroma of red fruit, vanilla, and cocoa with a light, fresh, and elegant finish.

Chateau Musar Red Vintage Selections

Founded in 1930 by Gaston Hochar in an 18th century castle in Ghazir, just fifteen miles north of Beirut, Chateau Musar and winemaker Serge Hochar have since established themselves among the premiere wineries in the world. Chateau Musar has achieved an almost cult-like following among wine lovers. The reds of Musar are crafted from a blend of different grape varieties, mainly Cabernet Sauvignon, Cinsault and Carignan. The varietals are matured individually for three years before being blended and then aged further prior to release. The composition varies from one year to the next, giving Chateau Musar a different character and identity each year.  For a truly special red wine experience, Zaytinya is very proud to offer our guests one of the best Chateau Musar Vintage collections in the country.
